Welcome to the latest monthly edition of the NR Times digital magazine...

Last year saw a slew of exciting developments in the field of neuro-rehab and 2025 is set to be no different.

Already, Australia has announced it is on track to launch the Spinal Injury Project Trial in early 2025. This groundbreaking trial at Griffith University will be investigating the world’s-first Nerve Bridge Transplantation which improves how cells are transplanted.

So far, results have shown that the nerve bridges can repair spinal cord injury, with the trial aiming to demonstrate that the nerve bridges can repair spinal cord injuries in humans.

Equally, following years of campaigning, the UK has launched its first-ever Neuro Forum to address gaps in neurology treatment and care.

The Task Force is set to bring together clinical leaders, organisations, and people with lived experience of neurological conditions in order to tackle shared challenges and focus on treatment and care, improving mental health and wellbeing support, and addressing variation in access to care across the UK.

Further developments in the UK have seen the government set out plans to support people with disabilities to remain in their homes through the improvement of adult social care. The plans will create a new national care service that will be tasked with delivering consistency of care, which will be underpinned by national standards.

The plans are backed by £86m for Disabled Facilities Grant for 2025, and a further £86m will be provided in 2026.

2025 is also set to bring forward key research and industry achievements with new clinical trials exploring groundbreaking treatments for conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease.

Further developments are set to advance the field in the area of technology, with 2025 seeing a growing role for digital therapeutics, virtual reality, and telehealth in neuro-rehabilitation transform patients outcomes.

The field will also see growing trends in neurorehabilitation such as using Artificial Intelligence in therapy and the use of personalised rehabilitation approaches.

We hope you enjoy the insights from January’s NR Times.
