Richardson Care

Specialist rehabilitation services and residential care for adults with acquired brain injury or learning disabilities and complex needs.

About

Established in 1989, Richardson Care has six specialist residential homes in Northampton, admitting adults from throughout the UK and overseas.

Richardson Care is proud to be an independently owned and run family business where caring really is in its DNA. It has pioneered person-centred care for 35 years and is now being run by the second generation of the family.

As well as rehabilitation, Richardson Care provides a home for life for some of its service users and takes that responsibility very seriously. Aiming to support people in a ‘family’ environment, while providing specialist neurological clinical support, staff treat the residents how they would want a family member to be treated.

Clinical Team

The high-calibre clinical team is led by Dr Pedro Areias Grilo, Clinical Head and Consultant Clinical Psychologist, who works alongside Silvia Silva, Head of Care.

Service users are supported by a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) providing neuropsychiatric care and neurological psychological, occupational, speech and language and physiotherapy.

The MDT informs each individual’s care plans as well as providing therapy sessions. In addition, the Activity Support Workers tie together the work of the therapists, supporting service users in their rehabilitation all day, every day.

Richardson Care thinks outside the box to provide care that is specific to each individual. Supporting them to engage in therapy, develop coping strategies and manage their behaviours.

This in turn helps them to increase their physical abilities and cognitive skills.

Testimonials

People with brain injury or intellectual/learning disabilities frequently have complex comorbidities, and the management of these conditions in the Richardson Care residential homes setting is second-to-none and ensures the best outcomes in terms of care, welfare and safeguarding.Service users are placed at the very centre of care which is provided with utmost courteousness and professionalism by the clinical and care team. The quality of care provided by Richardson Care to its service users sets them apart from many providers that I have come across in the United Kingdom. What is particularly striking and endearing to me, a mental health physician, is the person-centred and bespoke care that Richardson Care provides to its service users in an environment that enhances independence and participation in in-house and community activities.

What makes this service [144 Boughton Green Road] stand out is the consistency of staff and how they’re really interested in the people that they’re looking after. They really get to know the history of the service users, their pre-morbid likes and dislikes, and try to understand any changes in their complex behaviours. One particular male member of staff has gone out of his way to support my client who had been challenging and aggressive. I’m impressed by the care and attention that is afforded to the service users.

Just wanted to say how much A enjoyed his holiday with us. The rooms you booked were amazing and worked well being altogether. A was very excited to visit Disneyland each day. Walking around the park, he managed to do the best of his ability…with support from [his key worker] and ourselves. A did face challenges of walking through crowds while we were in Disney. We did stop for coffee and cake for respite and distraction for A, which A enjoyed, plus people watching and watching the street procession go by. On the last day, because of the increased crowds, we rented a wheelchair, which A didn't hesitate to sit in and was happier in himself, and going through the crowds was less stressful for him.Can I just take this opportunity to tell you how much we appreciate A’s key worker coming with us. He was brilliant with A, understanding A's needs and frustrations, constantly making A's holiday as relaxing and comfortable as possible. He also gave us free time to wander around Disney when A needed to rest. He was loyal to A and took his duties seriously by taking good care of A all through the holiday. We only wished he would have taken more time out for himself. I don't know what we would have done without him, it would have been a completely different holiday all together. Thank you soooo much for everything you and others at Richardson Care have done to make this holiday possible. It's been a magical and memorable time together with A, which we'll never forget.

We had to write to you to thank you so much for all the love and care you provide to J. As you are aware Covid had a dramatic effect on J's confidence and set him back socially. Over the last twelve months, with your team’s support J has blossomed again regaining his confidence and sense of humour. We realise that J can be challenging and we thank you from the bottom our hearts for the love and care you give to him. The fact that he could take part in the whole review yesterday was down to the support and care you give to J. We can’t thank you enough for all the work your team does with J. Please pass on our thanks and best wishes to all your team.

Today I sat it the Starbucks in Kingsthorpe, where I believe I watched a member of your staff with a young man in a wheelchair. She was amazing. For over 40 minutes I watched her give him her full attention - they were laughing and were just happy in each other’s company. In today’s modern world to sit and just watch - it really did warm my soul. I felt I needed to try and let someone know just how good this member of staff was. A member of staff in Starbucks said they knew both the people and the young lady is always like that. So please let that person know just how good she is doing
